During the lead-up to closing on your home, you'll need to change the utilities to be in your name. How do you do that? How long does it take? What information is needed to get everything switched over?

Usually getting your utilities set up doesn't take long. A phone call that only lasts a few minutes, or quickly setting up an account online should be all that's needed when it comes to getting everything changed over. The information that you'll want on hand would include your name, current address, address you're moving to, social security number, phone number, email address, payment information and closing documents if you have them on hand.

The utilities you'll need to make sure you activate include gas, electric, water (sewage, culinary, and secondary), internet, cable tv, and garbage.

Below is a list of phone numbers that are available for you to contact in order to set your utilities up.

Lets begin with the phone numbers for companies that cover both counties. The way to get your gas and electric set up is to contact Dominion Energy (formerly known as Questar Gas Company (800-323-5517)), Rocky Mountain Power (800-221-7070), or Bountiful Power (801-298-6072).

Cable TV and Internet also has multiple providers that cover Salt Lake and Utah Counties. AT&T Broadband (800-331-0500), Century Link (800-475-7526), Comcast Cable (800-266-2278), DirecTV (800-361-7175), or Dish Network (866-737-6823). You can also download the Xfinity app and contact them through there to get everything set up.

In order to set up your water and garbage resources, you'll need to contact the city you're moving to.
