Five Quick Tips to Save Money at Home During Summer

It's now the beginning of June which means summer is officially knocking our front doors. For many people, summertime means vacations, outside activities, and spending lots of money.

Here are five simple ways to cut back on your spending, while still being able to make those classic summertime memories.

  1. If you decide to take vacation time, or spend a day or two outside of the home: turn off the AC and close your blinds. It's surprising how many people air condition their vacant houses and waste money making sure their carpet is properly cooled.

  2. Change your air conditioning filters. Make sure that when the air conditioning is turned on, that it's not working harder than it needs to. New air filters will allow the airflow to move efficiently throughout your home.

  3. Hang your laundry outside. Yes, it may seem like an "old-school" way of doing things, but it will give your dryer a break and allow your clothes to dry as natural winds brush past.

  4. Do a backyard campout. Everyone wants to travel and experience the world while the kids are off of school, but when's the last time you've appreciated the beauty that surrounds your own home? Set up a tent in your back yard, and use your imagination to explore and find new ways to love where you live.

  5. Learn to garden. Buying fruits and vegetables at the grocery store might be more convenient, but that convenience comes at a cost. Instead, pick up some seeds and learn to garden. Plus, fresh fruits and veggies always seem to taste better when you grow them yourself.

There are plenty of other ways to save money this summer, but I hope you've enjoyed these five tips that can help you save money at home.
