Utah Utes, BYU Cougars, Utah State Aggies, Weber State Wildcats, Southern Utah Thunderbirds, Utah Tech Trailblazers, and Snow College Badgers. There's a good chance that if you're from Utah, you or someone you know enjoys college football.

With the new college football season kicking off recently, I figured that it might be a good time to do a write up on football and mortgages, similar to the one I did on baseball and mortgages earlier this year.

So how do the two things compare?

Let's begin with the offensive line and the borrower.

Without you, there is no us. Borrower's are the driving force to this machine we call an offense. A good offensive line isn't afraid to communicate effectively as the game progresses, and make the pushes needed to get a touchdown on the goal line. Lineman are strong, fit, and know that if they do their part effectively, the rest of the offense can move with ease to get the job done. Borrower's, just like lineman, aren't afraid to communicate effectively, and make sure they are doing what is needed to get to that next checkpoint. They are as strong financially as they can be, and put themselves in position to purchase the home without issue. They also know that as they get the loan officers and processors the documentation in an efficient manner, the more smoothly the team will be able to run.

Next up is the running back and the real estate agent.

Running backs come in many shapes and sizes. Some are bruisers who aren't afraid to put their head down and barrel over a blitzing linebacker, and some are lightning fast, who can leave the opponents in the dust. Most importantly though, they're crucial when it comes to finding the end zone. Just like running backs, real estate agents have different ways of finding a borrower their future home. Some may focus on one property at a time, and others might present a slew of properties for borrower's to check out. Ultimately though, they're a great resource to have when it's you find a house you love and want to put in a bid. They remind me of a third down situation on the goal line, and you need to punch the ball in for a score.

Third, lets go to the quarterback and the loan officer.

It's important to know the playbook and follow the game plan when facing your team's opponent. Quarterback's will study film, ask questions, assess potential defensive schemes, and be the team's leader on the field. They'll also call plays, and make last second adjustments in order to lead offense in for a score. Just like a quarterback, your loan officer needs to have a good idea of the different loan products that are out there, and make a personalized plan in order to help a borrower purchase a home. This might include asking important questions, collecting information, and making in-game adjustments to help a borrower's file move as smoothly as possible through the mortgage process. If a loan officer does their job right, they should be able to lead a borrower from application to homeownership as efficiently as a quarterback leads his team down the field and into the end zone.

Next, the wide receiver and the processor.

Wide Receivers are crucial to an offense's effectiveness in getting down the field and scoring touchdowns. The greatest wide receivers of all time are fast, shifty, great at separating themselves from danger, and receiving the ball securely. Just like wide receiver's, the best processors are fast at picking up the phone to communicate, good at looking for potential road blocks and re-routing their direction to keep the loan open. They'll ask for documents, and forms of authorization to move the loan forward, and they'll be good at keeping sensitive information secure. Ultimately, processors play a big role in helping the borrower reach the closing table.

Finally, referees and underwriters.

Referee's are important in making sure that the rules and integrity of the game are kept at all times. They'll address the players, coaches, and crowd if there is any infractions, and they'll review plays to make sure that they've made the correct call. Just like referees, underwriters are there to make sure that the players throughout the loan process are doing things according to the laws of the land. They'll review files to make sure that issues wont arise later on, and they'll notice if things need to be adjusted for the loan to work. Underwriters make sure that the integrity of the company is kept, and that everything is done according to the laws, acts, and amendments the government has set for the mortgage world.

As you watch football games this upcoming season, keep in mind how it would be to have these people on your team. If you're currently looking for a house, call me today and let's get you sprinting towards the end zone.
