Christmas time is here! I hope you're just as excited for the holiday season as I am. Families come together, gratitude is abundant, the food is amazing, and the activities are endless. One of my favorite Christmas traditions is driving around and appreciating the lights, trees and festiveness that people decorate their homes with each year.

Here are a few tips to get your home ready, and in the Christmas spirit during the final weeks of 2022.

First, lights! One of my favorite things about the holiday season is the different colored lights and the creativity that goes along with them. Some people will only string up lights on their roof, others will include their trees, and others may even have reindeer, Santa Claus' or nativities in their yards to complete the light show. Some people will even take their lights a step further and attach them to a radio station. Some lights are multi-colored, and some are one standard color the entire way around the home. No matter what your preference is, lights are always a great way to help your home look ready for the holidays.

Next, a Christmas tree. One of the standard practices of Christmastime is to decorate a Christmas tree and put it in a common area in your home. Placing it next to a window that faces your front yard makes it so that not only you can enjoy the magic that a Christmas tree brings, but others can also take in the Christmas magic found in your house. Some like to decorate it with lights, ribbon, uniform ornaments, and an angel. Others prefer a more casual tree with gingerbread men, different colored ornaments, and strings of popcorn. Whatever your preference, let the Christmas tree brighten your home and bring joy to your family and those around you.

Up next is garland. This may or may not have been a standard practice in your home growing up, but it can help give your interior an added Christmas flare. Garland can be put over a mantle-piece, a staircase, or doorframe. It adds a touch of greenery to your living room and and family room, and ties in the other Christmas decorations found within those rooms.

Lastly, scented candles or room sprays. When people come to your home, there's a good chance that you'd like them to be welcomed with organization and cleanliness. One way that a homeowner can welcome a visitor into their home is by giving them the scents of Christmas. The smells of gingerbread, hot cocoa, peppermint, vanilla, and pine tree can envelop visitors and remind them of past Christmas memories. Although it may seem like an afterthought, the smells of a home are just as important as the sights.

If these ideas inspired you to buy your own house, I'd love to help. Please contact me and lets help you find a place to call home for the holidays!
