Noisy Nuisances to Avoid

Updated: Jan 11, 2023

When purchasing a home, most people focus on how things look and feel.

Does the home look pleasing to the eye? Is it a home that I could imagine myself living in? Is this home in a safe area? Is this home built well?

As important as these questions are, another question that is important to ask is about noise.

A beautiful, safe home that you can visualize yourself in could have all of the magic taken away if there is constant unwanted noise. What types of things would cause constant noise that a borrower would need to look for? I'm glad you asked.

First, nearby airports.

When borrowers think of airports, they mainly visualize massive hubs such as Salt Lake International Airport. They Might also think of smaller but popular airports such as Provo or St. George.

Many people don't think of the normal, every day airfields that pilots take off and land in every day. These airports can be found in small towns such as Parowan, Salina, Blanding, and Beaver. They can also be found in bigger cities such as Brigham City, West Jordan, and Spanish Fork.

These airplanes aren't quiet and could cause disturbances at all hours of the day.

Next, nearby train stations. Yes, it might seem as though Utah doesn't have many train stations, but if you'd think that, you'd be wrong.

UTA's Trax and Frontrunner are the two major commuter lines that many people take to, and from work every day. There are other frequently used train tracks throughout the state as well. Other types of trains, such as freight trains, will use these tracks frequently.

Trains aren't the most quiet vehicles in the world, and could cause a homeowners windows to rattle from the vibrations as it rolls past. The screech of the tracks isn't the most pleasant sound either, and could become a nuisance if the trains squealed passed your home.

Noisy neighbors.

There's nothing worse than the loud music of a house party that rages until the early hours of the morning, or the screaming of adults (or children) that are within a close proximity.

Before moving in, do your homework on the neighbors and the surrounding situations that could cause frustration in the future.

Lastly, nearby highways and freeways.

Cars, trucks, and semi's can be the cause of an audible ear soar. It's important to keep an easy commute in mind, but it's also important to steer clear of being too close to a freeway or highway.
