Utah is one of the most unique and underrated states in the entire United States. It includes all four seasons, amazing sunsets, vast array of recreational activities, entertainment options, rich religious history, National Parks, and mountain ranges that combine the jagged edges of the Rockies and Wasatch, and the sandy shelves of the Southern Utah Hematite Red Rock. What makes Utah amazing in my eyes, is the people. The people in Utah are commonly known to be kind, welcoming, inclusive, and understanding. Utah is recognized across the country as one of the safest and best places to live (Worldpopulationreview.com, theHill.com, wallethub.com, usnews.com). In this series, "Why Utah?" I'll explore why Utah is a great place for you and your family to live.
First up: Northern Utah
Northern Utah is home to some of the state's biggest cities, including the capital: Salt Lake City. According to Utah-demographics.com 47 of the top 50 most populated cities in the state are in Northern Utah. Northern Utah is known for having icy winters, a cool spring, hot summers, and a brisk autumn.
If you're looking for entertainment, Northern Utah is a great place to be. The Rocky, Uinta, and Wasatch Mountain Ranges provide for many beautiful hikes, biking trails, waterfalls, campgrounds, outdoor recreation (four wheelers, skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, snow mobiling, etc.), and watching wildlife. Northern Utah is also home to a plethora of Olympic ski resorts, two professional sports teams (Utah Jazz and Real Salt Lake), three minor league sports teams (Salt Lake Bees, Ogden Raptors, Utah Grizzlies). It's also home to many museums, theme parks, shopping malls, zoo's, aquariums, National Parks, comedy clubs, and concert venues.
Northern Utah is also filled with a great education system. Not only do our K-12 schools score highly on the national school rankings, but the Universities found in the northern part of the state also rank highly on a national level. Northern Utah is home to five division one Universities including the University of Utah, Utah State University, Weber State University, Utah Valley University, and Brigham Young University. It is also home to one division two school in Westminster College, one junior college with Salt Lake Community College, and a plethora of other colleges and Universities including, but not limited to: Ensign College, Western Governors University, and Provo College.
Job opportunities are also plentiful in Northern Utah. A section of Northern Utah has adopted the name "silicon slopes" because of the rising tech community and abundance of new start up businesses. The state of Utah has one of the best unemployment rates in the country at 2.1%, and has plenty of genre's of businesses available for any interests you might have.
If you're looking for religion, a sense of community, and safety, you can rest easy knowing that this is a state filled with people who are searching for the same thing. Northern Utah is home to hundreds of different religions, including Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and many other religious sects. The most common religion in the state is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The headquarters for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is located in Salt Lake City, Utah. People who reside in this state are known for their sense of community, friendliness, and safety. It's not uncommon to find that a neighbor has put a plate of cookies on your doorstep, or help shovel snow after a major winter storm. Here in Utah, we look out for one another, we serve each other, and we take care of those who reside among us.
